Civic Design Studio has played a significant role in the visual environments of Oakland Chinatown. For a decade, Civic has done public art displays, street banners, metal designs, cultural celebrations and more. We are excited now to seed “creative engines” in Chinatown and nearby Eastlake/Little Saigon.
88 Lanterns was a revitalization effort in partnership with Pacific Renaissance Plaza ownership, Asian Branch Library, local merchants and our own Civic crew. Displays were throughout Chinatown, culminating in this hanging installation, painted glass and window displays. For our ongoing efforts we received local, state and federal recognitions, including a “Building the Future” Award from US House of Representatives.
